Diary of a bass player...

More than 45 years ago, Mike Claiborne picked up the bass guitar for the first time and immediately felt a connection with the instrument. Born in Sumner County Tennessee, Mike has spent his entire life so far in that area just outside of Nashville.

Such a close proximity to the Music City has afforded him the privilege of playing a diverse range of music with musicians from all over the world. Mike has also shared the stage with many of the most well known artists in Country Music.

Today, Mike continues to enjoy a career as a fulltime bassist and vocalist with a variety of bands and artists performing live, working in studios around Nashville, and recording bass tracks for clients in his home studio.

For approximately the past 15 years, Mike’s passion for music composition and production have been realized with the release of four independent solo projects: The Diary Of… (2012), 15/16 (2017), MC3 (2018), and The House That Bass Built (2025).

In addition to showcasing Mike’s talents on the bass as a support instrument and beyond, the music presented here demonstrates his skills as multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, producer, engineer, and visual designer.

The music draws from varying influences including jazz, funk, 70’s fusion, Christianity, reggae, and soul music.

The best way to experience the music of Mike Claiborne however, is to listen through your favorite set of speakers or headphones, relax and enjoy. It is music from the heart and music for the soul. It is inspired by life and intended to bring more joy to your life. Thank you for listening…
